There are quite a lot of studies on the use of VR in classrooms. Tools range from attention deficit disorder identification to post-trauma treatment, student attention quantification etc .... Please see the work done by Albert "Skip" Rizzo on "Virtual Classroom". I also point out to intelligent dialogue development in VR setups in the paper: "Survey on Intelligent Dialogue in e-Learning Systems", where I exemplify with a few virtual intelligent tutoring agents.
