Hi all, i am doing an experiment on solution combustion for glycine-nitrate. I have tested my sample solution with TGA/DTG. However, my DTG graph is showing an ultra high derivative weight % ranging to -800+ as compared to other literature reported which in the range of +-10. I would like to know if any authors reported such phenomena or the reason behind such gradual change. The as combusted powders were carbon black and amorphous.
The TGA/DTG was done at 10C/min.

that looks like a very very high decomposition rate! (runaway reaction)
do a plot of time vs temperature and you will most probably see a spike in the temp curve. Organic Nitrates can be interesting sometimes!

Khai, your molecule is a small organic nitrate. I would suspect this is decomposing so fast because it is approaching the field of Energetic materials!
Huge quantities will be dangerous. Identify your compound 100% to ensure what you've got.
You could slow down your heating rate (2C/min) and see if you can manage the decomposition rate.
Did you plot Time (x-axis) against temperature (sample) (y-axis)?
