I think it is high time all nations took plagiarism and intellectual property rights seriously.

I believe this as a good initiative. My point is not from the business point of view but from the academic points of view as we academics shouldn't involve in such things like plagiarism.

Atleast the UGC has woken from a deep slumber, a welcome move. This will certainly improve the quality of the faculty guiding research, and improve the quality of research in India. Majority of the PhDs produced in India are worthless Ph Ds. This move will certainly improve the quality in education system and the impact will be realized by next decade. It is said that 'to destroy a country, kill its education system'. This is true for India. The overall decline in the eminence of India can be attributed to the decline in the education system with poor quality teachers. This move will certainly help.

I believe academics MUST be involved in these items as the integrity and dedication to their work is on the line. No one has the right to benefit from theft especially when reduced pricing or special access to the document could have been legally negotiated with the publisher and/or copyright holder. Justifying theft by claiming Third World nations cannot afford new information is a bold lie. Using information to achieve any degree discredits everyone who earned theirs by innovation, dedication, and hard work.

Any measure that increases the level of quality of the work is very good, to be able to compete internationally in any field. Each process has its objective, although it is cumbersome.

Promotion of Academic integrity & Prevention of plagiarism in Higher Education Institution in India, the regulation 2018 . Literary theft/ Plagiarism are a severe problem in India in higher education institutions context, the law in the form of regulation provided following penalty if a person accused of plagiarism. The range penalties for accused are 1.In case of repetition of plagiarism of academic writings such as research paper, thesis and or dissertations of over similarities to others writings the faculty members will be suspended or even dismissed 2. Plagiarism in non-core area is guilty from plagiarism at 10% would not any punishment and that of the between 10% - 40 % the students have to ask to make a revision for the same and resubmit assignments within the period of six months. In case of similarities between 40% - 60 % the student will be debarred for one year from submitting a revised assignment and other academic writings concerned and similarities above 60% his/ her registration to the course/programmes will be cancelled. 3. For the teachers or faculty members, the similarities between 10%-40% range he/ she will be asked to withdraw manuscripts for academic and research paper and similarities between 40% - 60% they will not be allowed Masters/ M.Phil. and PhD supervision works and denied one annual increment and repetition to the similarities above 60 % he/she may lose their present job.

Strongly recommended. It is representing a first positive step.

It is apparently a good initiative. But UGC is a storehouse of many improper things.

In the approval list of journals, many journals with C category NAAS rating (below 4.0) is there, but many journals of B category (NAAS rating 4-6) are rejected for 'low scoring'.

They only know how they calculate such score!👏

It is a step in the right direction. Plagiarism has no place in the academia. It must be handcuffed via any appropriate means or strategy.

No doubt it is appreciable step taken by University Grants Commission, but only regulations is not enough to deal with the menace of plagiarism. we also need to change our mindset.

The initiative has to quickly trickle down to lower levels of education. Breaking the status quo will be problematic if curriculum below the university level does not contain considerable information regarding copyright, plagiarism, and writing techniques. Goals should include fundamental research, document formatting/styles--such as APA, Chicago, Harvard, etc., proper use of citation in text and references, how to synthesize information, etc. Right now it may be necessary to dedicate a class session to these items to those who are already in college. Curriculum developers should also consider implementation of a non-credit webinar for all current students and further development of a required class for all incoming freshmen until the initiative penetrates students/faculty all levels. The same training should be a required session for all current educators. It is not enough to say stop doing it, there must be a formal mechanism in place to instill the ethics and mechanics to successfully overcome this global disrespect for intellectual property.

Although very late but a good initiative by UGC. It is UGC which is at the helm of affairs to have a quality control mechanism for higher education in India. A stringent plagiarism policy at National level will prove instrumental in promotion of quality education in India which is much needed.
