Are there any potential challenges I should be aware of when transitioning from qualitative research in my thesis to a career as a professor in a university setting?
There are always challenges when doing research. It is inevitable that unforseen issues will arise. However, Seemingly suggesting that qualitative research is somehow inferior to quantitative research is a mistake. Many academics in my field of social sciences have undertaken qualitative research which have made their careers and lead to professorships. There is a great range of ethnographies that have become very well known, in particular, and have added to our knowledge and understanding of behaviour and societies around the world. I recently taught about Barker's study 'the makings of a moonie' as an example. But there are now so many to choose from. Another classic is Whyte's 'street corner society'. etc. Have fun and enjoy your research.
every research definitely has its own potential. what differentiates them are objectives, methods, subjects, topics, examples, statements etc.
quantitative is easier because the data is clear, accurate and more objective. meanwhile, qualitative is denser and still abstract, requires observation and is more subjective
suggestions : it depends on the "title" of the thesis you take. because the title determines what method u will use. suggestion is to try to find an objective title
If you are indeed planning on shifting your methods, one of the key things I would highlight about quantitative research is that is typically much more expensive than qualitative research. In particular, survey research requires large, high quality samples that are difficult to gather without external funding.
