I feel in structural engineering the nee research may be in the line of new construction materials, or engineering material proportioning..you may think in line of pre-cast construction to reduce construction time. Also, may you think of pre and post tensioning structural elements for strengthening. May be to think of infrastructural development for difficult ground conditions, where you do not have a space for new construction etc..
