during drilling of rocks in laboratory scale. embedded thermocouples can be used to measure the temperature for hard rocks. (by placing the thermocouples for every depth and average temperature measurements). weather this methods for laboratory scale it useful or not.

In metallic material we can made holes at differents heights in the part to put the thermocuples, and after drilling the hole.
I think that this method is very difficult in rock.
Do you prove with thermography?
I am using a thermal gun for quick temperature measurement. of a rock surface and a thermocouple (TC) for the holes. I guess embedding TCs in rocks can be quite challenging considering the long response time of TCs, the difficulties in coupling of the rock and the TCs and the fact that the highest temp appears at the interface.
Simultaneous temperature measurement of the rock can be difficult. You can try to insert a TC into the drill holes to measure the temperature once you stop drilling and possibly use a thermal camera/gun to get the temp of the drill bit. Make sure you do the measurement asap as the temperature can drop very quickly if it is very high.

I do not quite understand your question: What do you intend to do? Drill a hole in a rock sample in the laboratory and measure the temperature (somewhere) in the rock simultaneously? But at which position do you wish to measure, and what information are you after? The heating of the sample while drilling? For what purpose? In principle, you can embed thermocouples (or other sensors) in holes. You need to make sure the sensors are in good thermal contact with the rock, though. As others pointed out, there are various other methods available for temperature measurements. Which one is suited best for you depends on the purpose of your measurement.
