Hello all, I have a question, I am doing experiments on jet impingement, it consists of heating a sample and cooling it with a jet impingement (water), but while heating or cooling the sample, one or two of the thermocouples that are embedded in the sample, suddenly shows a very high (about 4000 °C) or very low temperature (about -3000 °C) which is not reasonable, the range of temperature I am working with is between 20 and 160 °C; I am loosing almost one thermocouple every day.
anyone has an idea or answer, or even a solution, I will be grateful

There is an interesting paper which analyses the phenomenon by F. Xu and M. S. Gadala ("Investigation of error sources in temperature measurement using thermocouples in water impingement cooling", DOI: 10.1080/08916150590953388)
We had also faced some similar problem replacement of thermocouple with high quality quality had cleared our problem please try this or alternatively if u can then use Infrared thernometer
I am using a high quality thermocouple, OMEGA NI thermocouple, I think they are vey good,, thanks for the suggestion, but I cannot use the thernometer since I am measuring the temperature inside a sample, I have a set of thermoucouples embedded inside a sample to get the measurments along it,, thanks for the answer :)
