Hi Scholars, I want to make sure about Viva results that there are five evaluations of PhD candidate's research such as distinctive, pass with Minor correction, pass with Major Correction, re submission, and also revive.
My Q : what are the differences between them?
Hello Dr. Qais, from my understanding, a distinctive grade implies the candidate has done an excellent job and as such was scored a distinction in the Viva, the highest grade interms of percentage 80-100%. Such work may require no serious scientific corrections and result of such work signals breakthrough in a particular field. A pass with minor correction is equally good, but will require corrections which may necessary be within data interpretation and typographical errors. A pass with major correction cab be equated to average grade. Here the corrections are so much and may also involve methodology error. Resubmit may mean the full write up of the Ph.D work is bad. As such, the author may have to rewrite the work. Such a person may not be graded until after the resubmission. Revive in my own term is that the person must go back to the lab or field and start again. I hope this will help
