The sampling distance and number of network points to provide training samples and for accuracy assessment?

I would like to evaluate various satellite data to mapping forest density in the Zagros forests in Iran.

In this regard, I want to use a systematic sampling network to provide training samples and points needed for accuracy assessment. What should be the sampling distance and number of network points?

Hi!

There are many aspects to take into account, but you could use a percentage of the estimated area, 1% is usually recommended with a minimum of 50 samples. Another aspect that needs to be taken into account is not to use the same samples for training and accuracy assessment because then the results will be biased.

I have used, for reference in previous works, some research by Russell G. Congalton (you can check his profile here in research gate) who has extensive experience regarding this topics.
