I think during your submission of a paper to a journal, you received a request from the reviewer or editor to check your manuscript by a native English speaker. Although this issue seems to be normal and necessary for soundly publishing a scientific paper, finding a native English speaker is not always easy. The high cost of language edition service forms also an additional barrier for many researchers working in labs with limited resources.
What could be the best way for helping these researchers to overcome this problem?
Hi, this is a very interesting question. I guess this is where collaboration and professional connections come to the forefront. However, it would be beneficial if there were (student led?) programmes in the UK/US that supported this.
Yes, as you rightly pointed out , this is one of barriers in behavioral research also. Cost of language editing services is affordable to many authors in our field. Authors generally bear the cost of publication themselves.
Some journals offer reduced pricing for authors from some countries.
Maybe there can be a network helpful researchers, who can take up this work voluntarily or at nominal cost.
