The accomplishments have mainly on the theoretical side mostly by nonlinear physicists. Some even made the claim that ocean freaque wave problem have been solved by nonlinear physics without going to the ocean. Which is rather comical.
On the observational side, however, there has not been anything very significant. There were more measurements from other parts of the oceans that showing Draupner-like wave conditions. And there are cases of sea going vessels encountering with freaque waves, but we don't know they were the same kind as Draupner-kind of freaque wave.
My personal disappointment comes when I learned that Statoil only made wave measurement at Draupner platform for a limited time. No one makes longer term wave measurements, so for two decades we don't even know how often the Draupner-kind of waves happen! They happen when they happen, I don't think we know much about freaque wave realistically now than 20 years ago.
