So begin by getting the audience to share your interest in the research topic, and then satisfy their interest by telling them what you learned about your research questions.
In addition to the opinions mentioned before which I agree with, the presenter has to know very well the audience level, are the attendants working in the academic field? then it can be much easier to use abbreviations, specific scientific terms and go straightforward..... or not, it is public, in this case ideas should be as simple as possible, very clear, to keep the audience focused.
