I'm teaching English listening for students in university, related on that I need your suggestion about the best method in teaching English listening for adult learner in EFL context?
Hello ARIF, here are 2 great links that you will find useful. There are several good practices by which we may teach listening. I don't have to say that you need to work with small groups of students, not a large group. And each student needs personal attention. Please go through the steps in each link, and tell me what you find useful. Thanks. (I teach biology, in English; and I have some tuition classes.)
"Teaching the skill of listening cannot be emphasized enough in a communicative classroom. For second language learners, developing the skill of listening comprehension is extremely important. Students with good listening comprehension skills are better able to participate effectively in class (Brown, 2001)."
As an ability to receive and interpret massages, listening is a key to all effective communication. I believe that EFL teachers should help learners to move from intensive listening stage to autonomous listening stage. Apparently, this involves two different but complementary issues . Firstly, teachers should help students to learn to listen effectively. As Mark Twain once said: Those who listen well have two tongues and one ear. Secondly, note taking strategies are also very helpful especially in intermediate and advanced levels. I would also like to refer you to an article by Sangster and Anderson in 2009 cited in ERIC.
