We use this acid bath to clean electrochem glassware. A recently prepared one has turned faint yellow after 3 or 4 uses. We've been trying to rule out possible sources of contamination. Could KCl contamination be the cause?
Not. This solution is stable for long time
If there some contamination you can see at bottom
As oxygen react with solution become darker

I think this is caused by adsorption of organic mater on the glass walls and subsequent oxidation to colored species upon contact with the cleaning mixture.
I think Piranha solution is suitable to clean the glassware instead of the acid bath.
Maybe formation of HCl (from contamination with KCl ) and, consequently, aqua regia? The regular colour of aqua regia is a faint yellow.
