I am working on a Energy Optimizing Furnace (EOF) for steel making. I need to measure the Flue Gas Composition, gas flow and dust concentration of the generated flue gases above the furnace. The temerature of the gas is approx. 1400 degC measured by a K-type Thermocouple. Can anyone help me how do I take sample for Dust concentration and gaseous analysis as I presume that the thimble for measurement, even with a MOC of Inconel, will be burnt. Do I need to cool the thimble by flowing water? Any help for the testing setup shall be highly appreciated.
Usually optical methods are used for such high temperatures, and instruments are calibrated by standard methods recommended by the manufacturers. IR, UV and dispersion meters can be used. For flow the velocity is put into a calculation with the observed composition. Dust composition is the hardest measurement, usually providing a trap or filter and cooling which might modify the composition.
You can analyze the flue gas after you cool it. Is this a working commercial furnace or a small scale lab/pilot facility
