I don't know if this is as big of an issue with Indian Armed Forces as it is with the US and other Western Armed Forces. Still, military and veteran suicide rates are far above those for non-veterans, and for combat exposed veterans, the suicide rates are even higher.
One of the biggest questions is whether or not there is a direct linkage between combat exposure and suicide risk, or if it is mediated by factors such as the extent and brutality of the combat experience or moral injury from the actions taken or not taken in combat.
Exploring that linkage is a significant research interest for the US and maybe for India as well.
