Staggered grid finite-difference (FD) methods are widely used for elastic wave equation modelling because of their high computational efficiency, smaller memory requirement and easy implementation. I am looking for the mathematical foundation for higher order (8th) of finite difference staggered-grid method on 2D P-SV elastic wave propagation.

Thanks for you answer. Yes this question is strongly relevant to J. Virieux (1986), the scheme presented by Virieux (1986) is second order. No doubt, the higher order modelling schemes require more intensive memory and time but on the other hand higher order also improves numerical dispersion. Anyway, I am looking mathematical formulation for 8th order Staggered-grid FD model for elastic wave propagation. I will see K. Gao 2017. Does this paper discusses 8th order?
No, the 12th order has reached now. See the attached figure, comparisons of 2nd and higher order seismic profiles. Actually I used an open source application that runs 8th order so that's why looking for its formulation.
