Im doing a Systematic Literature Review for my thesis. I already identified the articles for my review through a database.
However there are many articles that weren't identified that I already knew should be in my data set (through writing the proposal and going through the literature).
These articles would be found in the references of the articles I identified through the database. However, what is the best practice to be transparent in snowballing further research articles?

I too am writing a literature review for my thesis and I have faced the similar predicament. I am not sure what method you to retrieve the related papers. But here is what I do to manage the snowballing.
I identify all the review papers on the thematic area of research. Over the past 2 decades and not more than that. I just finished with one of the four areas of my thesis. That area alone is vast. I downloaded all the review papers..which were around 20. I read all of them to identify other papers they have cited and is relevant to me. I look for only the relevant info that I need in my thesis. Further I search for the related papers in the past 5 years separately in case any review papers did not catch it. This method has saved me a lot of time tbh compared to my previous attempts to download all papers and just stare at that mountain.
Try to only use the most recent review papers plus a few classical papers
Ensure that all papers referenced in eligible papers are reviewed for eligibility
