Dear Dr Dimitar Ognyanski , interesting question. I do not think civic activities can be brought through certain platforms. Few activities are absorbed by people voluntarily without any force but few other activities need little force/pressure- in the interest of the entire society. Warm regards Yoganandan G
In my openion at last public awareness attitude working and desire decided success of any thing ....so if things has created public partnership is must for their sucess and sustainability
Theoretically, such platforms are a good step towards more civic engagement and they can provide better urban environment. However, it is not just the existence of such platforms, which is relevant. In my opinion in order to achieve any effect two prerequisites are needed:
1) Information campaign on the promotion of the platforms;
2) School education promoting the values, related to more civic engagement.
Still, any form of civic activity and engagement, including the digital one, needs relevant culture and leadership. The culture is related to longterm processes in the society of sustainably available policies, attitude, sources and tools of communication, feedback and interaction between the stakeholders (the axe institutions - citizens). The leadership is related to confidence establishment and meaningful engagement. The only offer or access to platforms for civic activity is not sufficient without the purposeful policy, style and attitude behind.
In 2012, we have created a forum for civic activity on the municipal level and we have studied all similar initiatives in BG. We have found very same issues for any of the studied cases. No sustainability, no or little activity, formalism. Same remarks for platforms on public consultation. Without a consistent and integrated policy and measures, investment is a loss.
