I am aware that some scientists or researchers will try to avoid using brand names in their writing. When one must, should these words be capitalized? I was also wondering about using the phrase "Band aid" in scientific writing – should this be capitalized or even used?

Very few companies insist on initial lowercase letters. So the norm is to use uppercase, again with respect, but this time to respect the commercial rights.
"Band Aid" as a verb is slang and its use is to be deprecated in research writing. It also makes translation difficult.
Yes, commercial rights are to be respected. If one uses the 'Eppendorf' tubes, there is no harm in saying so with uppercase beginning.
Would you possibly get different results with Eppendorf tubes, or should one simply report generically that a laboratory centrifuge was used?

Some protocols I've read define very specific materials for use in scientific experiments, and those protocols do very often include company names, which is why I was inquiring about this. I would agree though, if generic equipment can be used, then reference that in your protocol text.

For my information, the name eppendorf is that of a quarter at Hamburg, Germany where the manufacture Biotech Company is located. Therefore it is much better to initialize by the high case (capital) letter; i.e. Eppendorf.
