There seems to be a substantial disagreement regarding the publishing of failures in research. Anyways, if failures, particularly methodological ones (e.g., a particular problem could not be solved by using a certain method) were published more frequently, the community could learn, avoid repeating them, and finally, progress would happen much quicker.

However, publishing failures, at least in the disciplines I am concerned with, seems to be a no-go and understood as not being able to do appropriate research (in a discussion I have been told such a publication could entirely destroy my career as a researcher). What would you say? Is it different between disciplines?
