While analyzing a linear relation, the results are statistically insignificant for the main study IV, as you said. I believe, you should interpret the significant and the insignificant relationship.

I agree with the other commenters, it's valid and worth reporting. Best go by effect size, that is, take a look at the coefficient and standard error / confidence interval. Large standard errors often result from data scarcity; if you have enough data points and the coefficient is small, make sure you check for interactions with other IVs.
