I eliminated both sag and swell in supply voltage by simulink model using matlab, but compensation is taking place throughout the supply, I need to stop it wherever sag or swell condition is not there. Can anyone suggest anything regarding this?
To start from the basic, an active filter is a static power electronic device which generates a 180 deg. phase shifted current waveform calculated on the basis of the amount of harmonics present in the system. By doing so the net harmonic current will be nullified. Say, a signal Y(t) constitutes of fundamental component Y1 and Y5, Y7, Y11 etc. which corresponds to 5th, 7th, 11th harmonic contribution, then the active filter will generate an equivalent current of " -Y5", "-Y7", "-Y11" etc. to cancel out the harmonics. Finally, the source will have only Y1. Hence, the operation of the active filter is continuous. For eliminating sag and swell better go with DVR (Dynamic Voltage Regulator) because practically for voltage compensation ACTIVE POWER FILTER is too costly.
Filter..means passive filter ..or..active filter.....by considering passive filters with inductors and capacitor banks act as tuned filters...Active filters are like STATCOMs can be made up of VSIs .....which we need to model separately and to be connected in series with the transmission lines to deliver or draw the reactive power..related to this several papers are available on net...all it is about series compensation...D-STATCOMs
