Knowing how to search scientific paper is imperative if one want to have some good information to start his or her research.
So I want to start a discussion about tricks and techniques that researcher are using to search for scientific research paper.
Now In my case I am using Scifinder and Web of science to find papers.
I usually look for recent (2 years) highly cited review paper first. Then I go for highly cited journal.
Would very much like to know other views.
Literature search is strongly topic oriented, so that it is an incremential process: new gained kwnoledge points to new potential papers and so on. Consequently, the best strategy is to use all strategies at the same time. To name a few: systematic journal scanning, references tracking, keywords or authors in indexes and search engines, and the old serendipity method. The general trick is to see as many papers as possible, and make a selection afterward. Anyway, nothing beats it as discussion with colleagues.

Well, if you are really searching for ideas nothing beats google search. It is not the same thing as retrieving a paper you already know exists.
