Hello Reasearch gate !
Can anybody tell me what sort of sponge is this taxidermy ? They call it Ianthella basta, but I'm not really sure.
It's 38cm high
I can make more pictures if necessary !
Thanks a lot !
Dear Manon,
Please, contact the PhD. Carla Menegola (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Carla_Menegola)
I know tht she can help you with this and other problems.
Kind regards.
It seems to be Alysina fistularis f. typica, if it was collected in the tropical western Atlantic.
Manon:
It is not Elephant Ear Sponge = Lanthella basta, instead shows affinity with Aplysina sp. You may take a tiny amount of material and analyse the spicules for specific determination.
Best
Syed
Thank you all !
I also think this is Alphysina sp. , unfortunately I don't think we will have the time to run analyses... Thank you anyway !
Manon

This larva was captured using a plankton net in the Persian Gulf during the summer. I believe it may be a Facetotecta nauplius.
