My proposal for a presentation on the adaption of Scrum methods to support doctoral students has been accepted for this year's conference of the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing (EATAW), so I'll be heading for Budapest end of June.

Scrum is a project management framework originating from software development but now used widely for complex, innovative projects which are agile: the final outcome is not known beforehand but changes with the working process, yet said process needs to be planned anyway. (Sounds familiar to you?) Scrum offers a very simple set of rules and roles that makes it easier to plan, review, adapt and complete complex projects through an iterative, incremental approach.

I teach and coach academic writing; I've been using methods adapted from Scrum in supporting both doctoral students and post-docs, and have found them to be very helpful. Have you used similar methods? What experiences have you made?
