To evaluate the nutritional value of hulless barley in poultry nutrition I performed an experimental trial last summer, and I used TiO2 as a marker (at a rate of 5 g/kg) to evaluate the amino acid digestibility. The samples of diets and ileal digesta have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. However, after the samples' preparation, the results showed no TiO2 content in the feed and ileal digesta (using Short's method, 1996). Till now, I don't understand the situation, and where is the problem.
Occasionally, The TiO2 used is from China
For me, I have two hypotheses:
- The TiO2 use may be adulterated;
- The TiO2 may be lost during diet pelleting (during the passage via conditioner because of air circulation brought about by paddles) because pelleting has been done in an industrial feed plant (manufacturer).
Are there other possibilities and how to check the quality of the marker???
Looking forward, please
