Countries launch satellites for several valid reasons, but now scenario is that many (in thousands) of these are longer working. Thus acting as space debris, these satellites and their non-working parts can collide with existing functional satellites and create more and more debries. Are we doing the same with space what we have done to our Earth or are some countries are taking some action. Please discuss.
Hi Aman, some countries like France have adopted laws to prevent space debris. You will find attached a short presentation of this "French Space Operation Act". The main countries having space activities should adopt the same kind of laws. In addition, some projects are under study to remove debris from space ("Active Debris Removal" missions). Best
Hi Aman. There is also a Japanese company called Astroscale which is working specifically on active debris removal solutions.
The topic is a difficult one, but I hope it will be soon possible to get rid of some of the increasing 'space-junk'.

There are several companies and space agencies working on various techniques for sweeping up smaller debris and de-orbiting it. So far, the furthest anyone has gotten is demonstration satellites, some of which have shown promise and others utterly failed. Given enough time, I feel certain that effective methods of getting rid of enough space debris to be effective would be developed; but at the rate that new satellites are being placed in orbit, things may (probably will?) get out of control before anything truly useful can be done about the problem. So just as in the case of reducing carbon emissions, the answers are there or just out of reach, but the goal is getting further and further away.
This problem is greater with the inclusion of cubesats, sending satellites into space is easier these days
