I am currently assessing biodiversity and comparing the relative abundance of various species in different forest fragments.

I am using camera traps capturing 10 sec videos.

While counting the individuals of the different species, it occurred to me that counting very young animals may not be correct due to their limited chance of survival to adulthood. Maybe i should count very young individuals as e.g. 0.25 individual if the species has a 1 in 4 chance of surviving to adulthood? But then what if a species chance of survival is still unknown? Could I use a standard number?

I am unable to find any literature on this. Am I thinking too complicated?

My project takes place in the Amazon and my issue applies to Peccaries, tapirs and Capuchin monkeys.
