Recently we have seen that Transformers in wind turbines have started switching to Delta-Wye configurations instead of the traditional Wye-Wye-Delta configurations. As we know each configuration has its own benefit, but in the last couple of years, there has been a shift from the manufacturer.
Would you please explain what is the reason behind it? Also, I would like to know if there is any special benefit in Wye-Wye-Delta configuration?

Out put power needed to be balanced of all phases, to avoid forth wire neutral, in H.V transmission the transmission of power is balanced, hence fourth wire(neutral) is not needed as there is no neutral current, needed to balanced the voltage, and Delta/Wye used . In modern wind turbine working with high field, with increased time constant(T=L/R), the variation of wind(speed) the power out put could be balanced, hence Delta/Wye could be used instead Wye/Wye....
From a student: I learned that most often the substation main power transformer for a wind farm most often uses a Wye-Wye-Delta configuration. This provides a grounding references for both the wind farm and for the transmission lines (in the event of islanding). This further supports the idea that a pad mount transformer used for the wind generator can be a Delta/Wye configuration and not need a neutral in the event of a fault. A Delta/Wye could be used for the substation main power transformer but it requires additional forms of protection and grounding techniques (the costs rarely offset with a Wye-Wye-Delta configuration)
