Q. If (R, +, .) is a commutative semiring and if x≠y ; x,y Є R. Then is 2x≠2y always true?

Dear All,

I am confused that in a semiring R if x=y then we can write 2x=2y for all x, y in R, but why can't we 2x≠2y when x≠y for all x,y in R.
