Protection CT and measurements CT of the fundamental differences together?
Normally C.T used are having air cored bar primary, surrounded by many multi turn secondary coils, some used for protection (relay current coil), and some for metering current coils, while unused shorted. In fault condition as CT primary AT are independent, C.T gets saturated, hence secondary current does not changed, and secondary will be protected from damage. In some specially designed C.T specific coil are labeled, for protection and metering. Distance of secondary from primary for, protection coil used secondary are little closer, than metering(for accurate measurement of high value load current)for to get more linear range of working , B/H curve(between knee and ancle point).
