I think we should see ORCID and Scopus what Nagendra Das suggested. As Google Scholar citations are based on Open access resources its difficult to rely on it. Even though citations are quantitative measure and not the qualitative one.

The problem is restricted only at google scholar.

I am so frustrated by Google Scholar, which I have used faithfully for over ten years, that I have listed my profile as "broken". In just the last few weeks I've lost around 3,500 citations, some papers have lost their titles, an utter shambles. I have reported the issues to GS, but no response. My colleagues have reported the same problems too.

There are A LOT of problems with Google Scholar (GS). Five of ten years ago it seems that GS was performing really good until they made some changes in the algorithms. In the past the main critic to GS what that it may overestimate citation counts because of taking into account citations from non-peer reviewed documents and sometimes from different versions of a same paper (like when a paper was published in Arxiv and in a journal (I do not know if that problem was systematic or related to specific cases)).

Nowadays the situation is different: you may have (way) too many or too little citations found for given papers, citations to a paper by other papers that do not cite it at all and may be even from completely different fields, merging of your paper with some other papers that are not yours and even if you correct for it, GS persists and merge them again and again. Even worse, there are papers that are not referenced any longer in GS at all. It happens for old papers but also new ones. I have the case myself of papers published in Plasma Sources Science and Tech that cannot be found in GS at all but fortunately can at least be found in the normal search engine of Google.

Until Google decides to revise their algorithms (and mostly go back to their old ones, when GS was, "once upon a time", the search engine that allowed you to find papers from the largest spectrum of journals without holes in them, at least in physics and chemistry), we have to use alternative engines as well in order to be sure that our literature overview does not have holes. For finding papers for which we already have the references, the situation is more straightforward, if you don't find it in GS, you can just go "old fashion", and go to the journal booklet or website, find the right volume and issue or use any alternative search engine of course.

Another cause of concern nowadays while using GS is that their search criteria give a lot more weight to impact factor and citations number than relevance of search criteria to keywords within the paper only (there have been published studies on that topic). Only for that reason, GS may not be a good choice as a search engine (--> as high impact factor journal papers and highly cited papers will tend to get more and more citations, even if their relevance may not always be optimum and may be unfair to some other papers and journals) and alternative search engines like WoS or Scopus should be used in combination.

I also have the same problem with Google Scholar with disappearing articles and a sudden drop down in my h factor.

i also did have problems with Scopus. My affiliation is now wrong, some of my own articles went to an other Marc Simon (I have unfortunately a common name - surname couple).

Are the citation before 2014. I publish articles after 2014 but there are no citation. Can I know why?

I created a google scholar account with my university's email, but the account froze. I cannot edit, add or upload my photo. I opened another account with the same email, but this time it worked. Things still seem ok in my case.

last week my citation and H-index decreased on my page within google scholar. The problem is started when I edited the volume and issue of my article, entitled "Study of lipid profiles in the serum of cardiovascular patients suffering from diabetes". Then I saw my citation and H-index did not back to the first condition (2 citations and H-index 4). My above article cited by 2 articles, entitled "Correlation between homocysteine and lipid levels in patients with ischemic heart disease" and "Assessment of Role of Job Components and Individual Parameters on the Raised Blood Pressure in a Noisy Industry", but my page shows only the second article as a citation.

"Make Profile Public" not working and not at all listing the name when searching.

Is google fix this issue? its a simple flag issue but no solution! Any way anyone found to fix this? please share.

I have just found 8 citations from a person with the same name as me. How to fix it?

If these publications are in the list of your Google publications you can mark them and then erase them from your list.

I am just doing this on my own list: Mueller is a very common name.

I cannot find a profile at Google Scholar for Benyoh Emmanuel Kigha Nsafon when I search your full name in Google Scholar.. What I get is a hint to one of your publications.

In contrast, when I search, e.g. , T. Hänsch under Google Scholar, I get to his profile with his affiliation, an information that his email address has been confirmed, and a list of his publications that can be sorted by year or number of citations.

I conclude that you have probably not really registered your profile at Google Scholar. Or can you provide a link to your Google Scholar profile page?

Dr. Muller, please try to cite the articles. The article has 4 different versions as uploaded by MDPI. But unfortunately, the main version ( MDPI version) has the error but other versions do not have the error. Please see the attachments.

I sometimes lose citations on my google scholar. Google says it might be because the host website of the paper which has cited you has gone or the citation was given to me wrongly in the first place!

Yes, I noticed no activity for several days, then my citation count was reduced by roughly 130 citations. The last time this happened Google told me that some databases were removed from the web, but they might be using a new algorithm as well.

I have the same problem. My citations went down more than 100. I can't see why?

My citations have reduced from 218 to 206 while the Researchgate citations are 208. Earlier, Researchgate citations were more than the google scholar citations.

On Google Scholars are many inadvertences. Unfortunately, it is using for evaluation and it is not accurate. Citations are missing and it is imposible to recover them.

Please , How to do if there are more than one version collected wrongly for the same paper. How to remove the wrong one.

Go to your Google Scholar starting page and tick the publications that you want to erase. You can then remove all ticked entries.
