For better or worse, the term triangulation has taken on so many meanings that it is no longer recommended in mixed methods research -- for example, the Journal of Mixed Methods Research will not accept articles that claim to be based on triangulation.

That said, you do have a clear purpose for your qualitative data, which is to confirm or disconfirm your original qualitative results. That should be sufficient for describing and justifying your design.

The research approach you described, where primary data is collected and analyzed qualitatively and then corroborated with quantitatively analyzed satellite data, can be categorized as a "Sequential Explanatory" mixed-methods design.

In this design, the qualitative data collection and analysis typically precede the quantitative data collection and analysis. The qualitative phase is used to generate insights and hypotheses, which are then tested or supported with quantitative data. This sequential approach allows researchers to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon under investigation by using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

A traditional sequential explanatory design begins with a primary quantitative study, followed by a supplementary qualitative study to help understand the results of the quantitative study (QUAN --> qual). Unfortunately, there is no widely accepted name for the design that reverses these priorities (QUAL --> quan). Even so, I am not sure that design would apply to this study, because the goal of the quantitative follow-up study here is to either confirm or disconfirm the qualitative results, rather than to explain them.

These days there is growing advocacy for qualitative methods to be carried out with quantitative methods. How that works and what to call it, depending on how it was done, varies amongst disciplines.

In your case, if you had used only qualitative approaches as part of the triangulation, observations, content analysis and so forth, then you could call your project qualitative research with triangulation. When you mix qualitative and quantitative research in one study, you have mixed methods. As David Morgan pointed out, the journals don't want triangulation mentioned in mixed methods studies. Qualitative methods are often described as using inductive logic with quantitative methods using deductive logic. Sometimes it's good to use the results of a qualitative study, after completion, in a quantitative study, particularly to answer the 'how many' question.
