Covid - 19 has changed the way of doing things in academic institutions. On- line teaching is gaining momentum. In my University, the first years who are reporting in September, 2020 will be taught through online. We have prepared modules and set e-platform. Though being in third world country it has not been easy as we implement on- line teaching. This is because of high level of poverty. The students are eager to join but they are limited by lack of internet and related gadgets. A lot of training on e-learning is on going to equip the staff members. it will be blended with face to face teaching as the pandemic goes down.
It will take time to start next semester. May be two or more months will be delayed. And new semester's short period to teach the all course content properly each instructor should be given more times for special class I think.
I did not do any activities in preparation for the coming new year, hoping for a vaccine to succeed, the end of the pandemic, and for life to return to normal.
There are two issues, one is preparedness in preventive measures against COVID-19 and another is preparedness for learning. Hybrid approach has been taken to continue the study. Online facilities are now updated with easy accessibility. Teachers and supporting staff have been trained and health monitors have been selected from each group.
What is needed at the moment is preparation, and planning on the maximum safety and protection of the students, staff and the entire university community against covid 19. All the health guidelines and preventive measures against covid 19 should be put into consideration.
I would recommend preparing for the worst scenario, level 3-4 closure and online learning. This is because there will be new waves, and there might be closures and changes.
As I stated earlier, we should prepare ourselves for online teaching. However, if a vaccine becomes available, we might become more sure that things will settle down.
An interesting link to help with our task of online teaching- We are reassured and motivated that we need to trust ourselves and just develop our online skills a little more. Some good strategies are given in the article.
Thank you very much, Shazia for your question. As the COVID-19 situation is still not safe, so educational institutions in the UK have not confirmed the dates of start (face to face in the classroom ) yet. Especially as a Higher Education institution we are prepared for Online teaching for the third term. We started with Zoom, then Google Meet, and this term we will be using more updated and smarter system MS TEAM to make online teaching more participatory and engaging and interesting.
We have already received training from the IT department on the use of MS TEAM.
We are prepared with our teaching and learning resources too.
Printing and distribution of modules, conduct of orientation to parents on modular distance learning delivery guidelines, and preparation of class programs and many more. Ongoing efferts and preparations are still underway.
I teach at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and we will be beginning face-to-face on August 27! I am very excited to teach face-to-face again...the university has guidelines in place (wearing masks, shields, cleaning classroom prior to meeting)! Some of the course work will be hybrid (due to size of participants) and the classrooms have be connected to Zoom or Microsoft Teams. I think we are set to go...just being safe is the KEY!!! Thank you!
The delicate prolonged lock down period is making things a bit unpredictable here in India. We are not yet sure whether we will be able to have face-to-face. Lot of planning and preparation by way of online dialogues, webinars etc. are on. Above all, the kind of preparation that is going on within me is to face the 'new normal' and to live it especially with the young people. I am taking every care to get across to the youngsters to keep their hope glowing.
Getting ready for lot of uncertainties. It's a new learning for all of us to switch over from the class room to the laptop screen. Preparing and delivering lectures without the physical presence in the class and a complete lack of non verbal communication is a completely new ball game altogether.
But looking forward to this interesting challenge.
For any semester preparation should be with advance beginning so avoid last as to minute worries & tension . Student preparing for semester should up keep their study & knowledge so that semester may merely work as an examination .
May be, execution of any plan in this pandemic situation will be not easy but tough so why list of plan may helpful to motivate the students for going forward to next....
Given the health uncertainty in my country, I contemplate two scenarios:
(i) a mixed model, seeking the maximum safe face-to-face teaching possible, focused on the more theoretical contents of the subjects I teach. I leave some problems and practices with a computer for online mode.
(ii) considering a complicated health situation, the teaching would have to be completely online. In this case I already have enough teaching material prepared.
Since colleges and universities are still closed and chances of re-opening and going for physical classes is diminishing, we have already started on line teaching. Its a complete new challenge.
Regular interaction with students on line, one-to-one conversation in each session, providing study materials and questions to answer, evaluating the answer scripts unit wise is of immense help to students for semester preparation. In addition, exposing students to web talks, webinars help them boosting academically and morally in preparing for semester exams in the best possible way.
In my country, due to the persistent rise, virtual teaching had been the way out. Although students in exit classes have resumed with various social distancing rules enforced
The condition is same in Karnataka also. Expecting the college to reopen by September for final year students. Preparation for conducting revision classes, solving question papers and preparing students mentally strong to attend the exams.
Dear Shazia Kardar, this is a good discussion to share expectations and experiences. I wish you the best of luck in carrying out classroom teaching activities Sudha N Natesh, Adams Ovie Iyiola, Itishree Padhi, Sonia Morya, Francisco Martínez González, Abdul Kuddus, Rohit Manilal Parikh, Preeti Oza, Teresa Joseph, John Downing, Noor Mahdi, Sudha N Natesh, Erwin E. Rotas, Tabassum Ferdous, Samy Azer, Isa Baba Koki, Isam Alkhalifawi, Ali A. Al-Homaidan, Muhammed Ashraful Alam, Md. Abdur Razzak Choudhury, and Harikrishnan U.. In our case in Brazil, at the University of São Paulo, the next term, in September/August, will be completely online, and for disciplines that need to carry out practical activities and face-to-face experiments, they should be carried out in January and February 2021. We are currently preparing classes for the online teaching, different from the term past which is designed for classroom and adapted for online. Now it is being planned and prepared for remote teaching. Good luck to all of us.

Agree with Dr. Samy Azer , we need to be prepare for any unwanted scenario being created at very sudden, and our preparation for next semester is simple, we tried to cover much of our computational work and will practice rest of practical work soon in lab, as we are in our research phase. Also i hope things will go very fine from coming month.
In Nepal, classes are running online and I guess online classes are the only options for the upcoming semester. As cases are surging, onsite classes are perhaps not possible.
In Croatia, school starts on September 7, and the main rule is to keep one's distance, not to mix pupils from different classes and to step up hygiene, while face masks will be mandatory only for pupils in higher grades if there is not enough space for them to keep their distance.
There will be online classes if any of these two scenarios occurs: an entire class or school is undergoing self-isolation, or a class is being split up to provide more space for physical distancing.
