I have seen many professors that rely entirely on power point presentations for teaching. My experience teaching courses in Electrical Engineering shows that students appreciate it more when I also write on the board and take the time to explain the solutions and have an active discussion with them. Student appreciation is clearly shown on student course evaluations.

Could it be that for theoretical courses then power point presentations simplify the material whereas for engineering courses writing and explaining the detailed solution on the board makes it more understandable to students?
