Around 600 data points collected 4-21-2013 for a undergraduate project looking at any possible basic environmental factors affecting the spread of HWA, and the survival of hemlock trees.
All data points are for western North Carolina, in Watauga and Avery counties.
All the live trees in the survey were found to have received consistent treatment with insecticide, those trees listed as dead have moderate to heavy infestations.
I'm not planning on doing anything else with this data, but I hope it may be useful to someone else.
The 'raw data' folder in the zipped file contains the point data in .kml (google earth) and .gpx formats, while the two excel files have tabular data with some minor analysis done.
It's not my business, I know... but why don't you do something with the data?! It just hurts me to see data being wasted...
I did, but considering that the scope of the research I was doing, I don't have anything more to do with the data set right now. Hence the reason I'm offering it up for anyone that desires to use it and can get further mileage out of it.
I've got one or two more ideas for later, but sharing it opens up the opportunity for other researchers to do more with it.
I am in the process of conducting research on hemlocks in the Southern Appalachians. I came across this data when I was looking for information on the locations of hemlocks in Watauga County. I plan on collecting the locations of some hemlocks in the area in order to create a classification using Landsat, so I found this very helpful. How did you go about collecting this data?
