Often researcher use a dichotomous (dummy) variable in a regression model to see if there is any significant different due to gender.

I agree with Niaman, moreover,  You can use t test to analyze gender differences, but i think path analysis will be better

Noaman has the key, with this technice you can build a descriptive model of gender difference on poverty. You can cross studies level, number of family members, age... for example.

Another way is to use Pearson or ANOVA   to see if diferents combinations of varables have significant diferences. 

Nneka, it looks like you are doing a comparative study. You may wish to separate your primary data into two by gender and estimate the impact of remittances on the poverty level of each gender, then do a comparison. You can employ econometric model for this purpose. Cross-section primary data can be used, it is also possible to use panel data in this study.
