The densification rate during sintering depends on factors including: material properties (yield strength and diffusion rates) compact variables (initial density, particles geometry, and powder particle size) and processing parameters (temperature and pressure). In all sintering stages several densification mechanisms act simultaneously. The influence and interaction of the densification mechanisms is most directly represented in a graphical format, known as densification map.

When the constitutive equations for the densification mechanisms are defined, the calculation of the densification maps may proceed. See refferences:
