I'm using the first three letters of the genus and the first three of the species (eg Cordia sebestena = CORSEB). It is very unlikely that the names repeat that and are much shorter than complete name. Hope this information will be useful.

You must write the scientific names as standard (Genus species abbreviation of Author name).

These above brief names were non-standard.

The author's proposal is to use the first four letters of the generic and the first three of the letters of the specific epithet (Hong Qian, K. Klinka, 1998 ; Pxi paragrph 3)

as others, we use a 3-4-(3) letter code (3 : genera ; 4 : species ; and eventually 3 for every infraspecfic epithet - var. subsp. fo. or watever). Works well : for more than 4000 taxa, we have only about 100 confusions needing specific codes.
