If you are really sure that the primary solution is homogeneous (if not, you need to disperse it on ultrasonic bath), you can use the classic equation:

C1xV1=C2xV2

Where C1 is the concentration of the primary solution (3mg/30mL), V1 is the volume that you need, and in the other side, C2 and V2 is the concentration that you need and the volume that you need.

If you have only one batch of that solution, you don't have any other option. But if there are several batches, you can just dilute the whole batch each time.

If its 0.3 mg/30 ml i.e 300ug in 30 ml, i.e 10ug/ml , then this is already diluted and you can't prepare the other solutions..

Maybe I did not word it correctly. So this is the suspension that I am planning on buying.

I am told that this is homogeneous and by adding deionized water and shaking I can dilute it very easily and it will work for the my purposes of soaking seeds for a few hours.

I was under the impression that 30ml=30g and that 1% would be .3 grams of the CNTs in the water. So now from 30ml I need to make 4 batches of concentration to soak some seeds in at 10ug/ml, 20ug/ml, 30ug/ml and 40ug/ml.

If I have .3g of CNT in the dispersion that would actually be 300000ug, no? I am no chemist and I am horrible at math but if I can just get past this issue I can proceed with my experiment.

I think I will have to take a certain amount of the stock concentrate, the original 30ml, and move some into different graduated cylinders or something and then I would have to pour the necessary amount of water into each batch in order to achieve the desired concentrations. I am just totally lost as to where to start.

OK, first if you want to have very precise calculations you need to take not the volume but weight, i.e. you need to weight your CNTs solution. Here is the calculation: if you take 1g of your solution, it will contain 0.01g of CNTs, which equals to 100.000ug, thus you need to add water to this to have in total 1000ml. Thus it will be 10ug/ml. Similarly, for the rest you need to take 2, 3 and 4g of your CNTs solution and add to each water to have in total 1000ml. That's it, but it will be good to sonicate the solutions before and after preparing them to retain the homogeneity. But honestly, I think the concentration of CNTs is too diluted to see any effect on the seeds. Hope this helps.
