Research Cheryl Tatano Becks work in postpartum depression. For some leads, you can also try Bhandari, et al. (2021) Data-driven methods distort optimal cutoffs and accuracy estimates of depression screening tools: a simulation study using individual participant data. Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 137, 137. Best wishes for amazing research!!
Nurses knowledge on depression is taught in school for mental health. As far as pregnancy related depression (pre or post) that’s a blip of schooling. People are aware women go through depression and there is newer research into this subject. But even doctors don’t have these answers and everything is based on signs and symptoms of depression and also family history of depression. Common screening tests used are the EPDS and PDSS. I would suggest a sleep screening test also. I think assessing the Length and quality of sleep a postpartum mom is having is vital, lack of sleep can not only trigger depression but can also create many other problems.
Please let me know how your paper goes. I would love to read it when done. PPD is difficult for so many and they never even know why they feel how they do. If more education was given and time spent on alerting people prior to pregnant on these s/s we could avoid these issues for baby and mom. PPD is treatable prior to birth w/ anti-depressants.
