I remember 55 years ago when I was studying at the elementary school, every student in my class planted 4 trees. This was not included in the curriculum but it was a civil service. It is a good suggestion to apply this and include it in the curriculum of the university students.

Ecocentrism should be the core value of our society. Emphasis should be given not only on tree plantation, but also on all activities which improves the overall quality of our ambience. Furthe, it becomes our moral responsibility to pass on the rich natural heritage to our children and make them learn the significance of the components of the nature.

Absolutely excellent idea of preventing the loss of heritage created by human activities to our mother nature. It should be made compulsary amongst the students of College or Schools or Universities. Apart from these the important of this activity sholud be properly addressed to our society also. 

It is equally important to know the importance of not cutting the existing tree and taking the blame of deforestation on us. This should also be well adderessed.

i think the idea behind this activity is to create the sense of responsibility in the child's behavior. if this aim is well preformed, we will have absolutely better environment. it does not matter whether kids plant trees or shrubs; it is important to encourage their senses and make them feel proud.

We have tried this in our country in the 1960s until the 1980s. Sadly it was a failure. Upon assessment, the suggestion was not just planting a seedling but taking care of it. However, other issues arose such as security, funding, thieves, etc. However, the concept of it is really very good.

Good idea. However, the children should also know that in a forest ecosystem with intact ecosystem functions the trees are not depending on being planted. So, part of the program may be planting of trees in urbanized areas or in course of a reforestation project, but another part may be observing natural regeneration of trees in some forest area nearby during some period of time. Also here, some saplings can be marked. So, children probably will learn about a variety of threats, as e.g. browsing by ungulates, caterpillars etc, and also about competition between young trees. They may learn that in an intact forest ecosystem there is abundance of natural regeneration, and mortality of some individual young trees generally is no problem. Which of course is a different situation from reforestation areas.

I think so. However, I believe that planting should be done in an organized and conscious way. Students need to know what are planting, why are planting and what the consequences of that act. Furthermore, it is important that everything is in appropriate socio-cultural context.

Dear @Moharana, this is a great idea; people should be aware and share solving these issues; in this way,  they generate the oxygen they need and  give a better clean green and safe environment.

With the planting of the trees one need to take care of the sapling till it matures. I have seen many tree plantation programmes and campaign where 1000 or more saplings were planted but the rate of survival was merely 1 -2% because of lack of attention over the development of these saplings. 

Well said @Bhavesh its a fact that in many place many plantation done but after that no take care for sapling which is a very important part in plantation process 

Good idea and need to be popularized, implemented and followed fully. Likewise many ideas come and are good also but never implemented fully -- like population control steps of a densely populated country, saving limited resources like water, energy and electricity etc etc. Such kind of activities need mass public awareness and increasing educational awareness and moral/social duties, and in this materialistic world and for comforts we forget these important issues of saving mankind. 

Pretty brilliant idea. Yes,  planting of trees should be part of the school curriculum in education. This would help to achieve and sustain 'Go green".

Good that Prof Kamal is back, apart from school, we all need to plant 1 tree / year and nourish it personally so that grows fully.

We want students identify and plant a variety of plants, including trees. This should be included in the curriculum.

After-school activities provide opportunities for children to interact with their environment through field trips, research and action projects, and to practically apply what they have learned. Education focused on green jobs and disaster risk reduction helps young people develop their creativity, engage in productive work and contribute to the emerging green economy

Yes..it should be a part of school curriculum. Since environmental awareness is necessary among the young generation, this also help them in nurturing theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of environment.

• Children make sketches to show how they started their plant and the growth of their plant over time. ..........(KG)
• Investigate ways in which a variety of plants adapt and/or react to their environment, including changes in their environment, using a variety of methods ..........(Grade 3)
• Volunteer to plant trees, as trees provide shady places where we can go to keep cool ............(Grade 5)

Yes, it should be a principal part of curriculum not only in schools but also in colleges and universities in order to protect our planet from the danger of pollution. The idea of naming the trees in the institution campus by the names of the students who planted them is very advanced one as it will boost up the energy level of the students for more environment friendly works.
