a friend asked me about the fantastic gem stone and i was very interested about it , if any expert gemologist can tell me the name of it i will be very grateful . it's a dark brown solid sphere giving sun like colors when exposed to light source
I don't think its any kind of naturally occurring gemstone.
Its a black opaque sphere shaped material that is glowing when light is falling on it.
It appears man made
elemental analysis, specific gravity measurement or at least observing the crushed part the sample under binocular microscope can give you some idea about the material.
QEMSCAN is one recent instrument which can non destructive analysis of mineral/ rock sample.
A simple specific gravity test would get you a good data point. It is non destructive and very easily administered. Secondly, I would do a non-destructive chemical assessment, either using a portable XRF (X Ray fluorescence) or SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscope w/ Energy Dispersive X-ray). If you use the later, refuse to have your sample graphite coated. The tech may not be happy about it and say that it might not work, but I have done samples without any coating before and the results are sufficient if you resist high magnification and high acceleration voltages.
Our university also offers FREE mineral identification as part of our University outreach and training of our new geoscientists. Students in my mineralogy course are assigned a client sample as a project and have one semester to identify the specimen, in the process learning all kinds of methods and gaining skills with analytical instruments. After completion you would get a several page detailed client report with all the data from the investigation. And of course, we would mail the sample back to you. Next round of investigation starts first week in February 2017. If you are interested, here are the details:
