I'm looking to find the right research topic on additive manufacturing (3D printing or 4D printing) for biomedical, defense, and robotics applications.
Can anyone suggest any research topics I can work on?
If you have any reference papers or Ph.D. thesis would be appreciated.

Read extensively about additive manufacturing. Identify a gap or gaps in the previous research in the same line. On the basis of that establish the problem that your research would be trying to address. You must also indicate finally how that problem is important enough to be ignored, hence need to research and recommend appropriate solution(s).
first of all, it depends on your interest and abilities, as you know AM is a broad field that covers many aspects of design, fabrication, and post-processing of complex and customized parts. And it is important what you want to do later. based on your skills it would be better to focus on biomedical and 4dprinting. search in the literature, books you will find plenty of resources that can help you. also, you can access the thesis through university websites and libraries. you need to search.
4D printing is a new area of additive manufacturing that involves developing smart structures/ parts which can change their form or properties over time in response to external stimulus such as temperature, humidity, light or magnetic fields. Some research areas on 4D printing for biomedical, defense and robotics applications are:
1. Design and development of 4D printed implants that can dynamically adjust to the patient anatomy or physiological changes with time for improved compatibility and performance. Similarly you can also work on 4D printed drug delivery devices, biomedical actuators for various applications
2. In defence, you can develop materials capable of changing its colour for adaptive camouflage applications, self repairing/ self healing materials in defence equipments which can be higly useful for adversity conditions.
3. In robotics, you can start working on soft robotics such as grippers, actuators, and sensors, capable of dynamically changing shape or stiffness. You can also look into autonomous and self assembling robots utilizing 4D printing.
