Can anyone help with putting me in touch with private / public sector organizations whom I might approach to take part in my PhD field research. The research is non-intrusive, and all protocols on ethics and confidentiality are ensured. The research is focusing on organizational conversations (everyday meeting) with the objective of analysing these for knowledge work (sharing, creating, etc).
I can help -- I have good understanding of knowledge management (KM). I have to tell you that often people and organizations pay lip service to KM. KM may be a list of network contacts that a members of an organization have, or it could be a collection of documents which is at best explicit knowledge captured on paper or on electronic media.
The more important and difficult tacit knowledge is generally not "knowledge managed". Many organizations have directors or managers who do not know what their subordinates know or have knowledge of, let alone the tacit knowledge lodged in the heads of each of their subordinates. At my previous university, they appointed a professor of knowledge management and in one of my conversations I asked him if the fcaulty of which he was a member, whether it "managed" knowldge, he said effectivel that it did not, When I asked why not, he coudld not give me a convincing answer. If you ask me, knowledge management starts with managers and directors taking a real interest in their staff and their knowledge, but that sadly does not happen often enough. Some organizations have knowledge managers and if you ask them if they in some way or another manage the tacit knowledge, I think they may not give you a direct answer... that could suggest KM is not all it is supposed to be.
Early this year, I presented a research paper co-authored with A Kuijpers at a conference in Singapore which looked at KM, following an M&A -- as you know more often than not, layoffs follow after a merger & acquisition, and it is clear tacit knowledge is laid-off, so to speak as people are fired, or relieved of their jobs.

I have actually now completed my PhD thesis but am now working on book and would be really interested in any opportunities to get audio recordings (anonymous of course) or organizational meetings to use as data for this, The book will be published next year.
