Hi Friends!

I wish to grow millets in pots in greenhouse under defined nutrient conditions.  I am using an inert soil like substrate from vermiculite +perlite for the purpose. I am currently using 1/2 strength hoaglands (ph at 6.5-7) solution but have observed that although plants have germinated and grown well their growth is not as good as when they are grown in soil or in undefined soil like fertilized substrate. In view of the same,I would like to explore what options do I have to improve their growth profile? Shall I consider changing the nutrient media? . What are the other precautions should i take before going ahead. The literature suggests Hoagland has been used extensively. Please help.

Many thanks.
