Does anyone know of any studies which summarise some of the characteristic differences between old news media (press and broadcasting) and new news media (online, new media, social media). What are the major changes taking place in form, content, genres, styles, news values, and audience?
I am not sure that "differences" is the best way to view this topic.
Journalism has become "multi-platform."
For example the news writing textbook my school uses says that a newspaper covers a breaking story this way:
So maybe rather than examine differences, explore how conventional and new media channels are integrated and used by a single news organization.
(Note that this post is about legitimate journalistic organizations, not websites who imitate journalistic style for advocacy).
