There is a whole bunch of new and quite new materials out there.

But materials are always chosen for a purpose. Which purpose is yours?

I think, your question is too imprecise. Basically, you can put anything into a metal matrix. However, it happens quite rarely, that the composite is better than its components. (feel free to check my phd-thesis for steel wire reinforced aluminum).
