It will be difficult to use nano particles in diary or food products as it will not be approved by FDA regulations. This is because when we take food assimilation and absorption takes in the intestine. Food downsized to 1 to 100 micron can be absorbed by the intestinal walls. However if the size is lesser say (100 nm) such particles instead of getting absorbed directly enters the blood vessels. They reach the brain and there are possibilities of immediate brain damage and catastrophic failures in working of blood-brain barrier. You may have a google search on nano-food and its limitations.

The safety issue has been interpreted clearly above. Until there is a detailed assessment of nanoparticle toxicity, such application cannot be approved in food.

Also, try to think in a reverse path: does it have to be of nanotechnology? If the proposed properties/advancement can be afforded in any simpler and, more importantly, cheaper way, especially in the industry-related applications, the involvement of nanotechnology would be considered "no importance", thus no one would care to provide any funding.

This is why we are investigating the AFM and SPR technology now. Great.

Pasteurization removes a lot of harmful bacteria but adulterants and pesticides which enter via bio-magnification in milk require quick attention. However, food processing industry do have quality check control but milk processed at local levels require sensors for quality control. Nanomaterials in sensor fabrication can really help to cut cost and increase sensitivity or reusibility.

One of the most important agricultural industries in Macedonia is the dairy industry.

Milk has the largest share in the total livestock output, 57%, and 18% of the total gross

agricultural output (SSO 2009). Consumers have a large consumption of dairy products, predominantly cheese (11.6 kg/head per year) and fresh dairy products (58 kg/head per year) (SSO 2009). Prior to Macedonia’s independence in 1991 the main markets for the country’s dairy products were other parts of Yugoslavia. However, since then these markets have shrunk significantly, which has created major problems for the Macedonian dairy industry. It has not fully adapted to the new market conditions.

Nanotechnology is no more being a concept or theory of the new world, but has turned into a new enabling technology over the years, with tremendous potential to revolutionize agriculture and livestock  sector in India as well all over the globe.

Nanotechnology can provide new tools for molecular and cellular biology, biotechnology, veterinary  physiology, reproduction and many more. It can be used for pathogen detection, so there are several areas in which nanotechnology could be applied to the science and engineering of agriculture, animal and food systems.

Nanotechnology applies the nanoscale principles and techniques to understand and transform biosystems (living or non living) which uses biological principles and materials to create new devices and systems integrated from the nanoscale. It is engineering at the molecular (groups of atoms) level. Nanotechnology is not confined to one industry or market. Rather, it is an enabling set of technologies that cross all industry sectors and scientific disciplines. Probably uniquely, it is classified by the size of the materials being developed and used, not by the processes being used or products being produced.

Nanotechnology, as a new enabling technology, has the potential to revolutionise agriculture and food systems in the United States of America and throughout the world. Examples of potential applications of nanotechnology in the science and engineering of agriculture and food systems include disease treatment delivery systems, new tools for molecular and cellular biology, the security of agricultural and food systems, new materials for pathogen detection, and protection of the environment. Existing research has clearly demonstrated the feasibility of introducing nanoshells and nanotubes into animal systems to seek out and destroy targeted cells. Nanoparticles smaller than one micron have been used to deliver drugs and genes into cells. Thus, some building blocks do exist in isolation and are expected to be integrated into systems over the next 10 to 15 years. It is reasonable to presume over the next couple of decades that 

nanobiotechnology industries and unique developments will revolutionise animal health and medicine.

Nanotechnology is defined as a scientific knowledge application for matter’s manipulation and control in nanometric scale (1-100 nm). Nanostructures may present new physical and chemical characteristics, demonstrating high reactivity and solubility levels, and better stability than the original actives. Nanotechnology allows the development of new products and also the possibility of reworking conventional substances viewing better efficacy results. This technique is commonly used in Human Medicine; especially involving nanocarriers for quick and specific drug delivery into cells. In Veterinary Medicine, the use of nanoparticles composed by antimicrobials actives are being intensively tested, especially in livestock animals. Nanostructured antimicrobials composed by synthetic or natural actives have shown excellent results against multi-resistant microorganisms such are normally hard to eliminate by using conventional treatments. Pet care nanoproducts, as shampoos composed of silver nanoparticles, are already approved for use in dogs and cats. These products are indicated to act in skin and coat, and also cleaning and softening. Other available nanoproducts are deodorants, surface disinfectants for pets’ environment and owners’ furniture. On the other hand, the growing use of nanomaterials also reveals a need for risk assessment regarding the environment and even food. Viewing to better comprehend the nanoparticles interactions, important research groups and government organizations in several countries have contributed with important safety and efficacy studies regarding the use of nanoparticles in animals and evaluating its impact on animal health, Public Health and environment.

Controlling bacterial growth in fluid milk is of economic interest, and supplemental methods to stop or reduce bacterial growth before and during the cooling chain may be valuable. Silver is effective in controlling growth of single-celled organisms, but has no effect on tissue cells. Smaller diameter (6-8 nm) silver nanoparticles were produced, with purity over 99.99% (no chemical reaction used in the process), by using a terminated gas condensation principle. The first trial investigated effects of time, temperature, and accelerating voltages on total aerobic bacteria count in control milk and milk treated with silver nanoparticles. Metal braids were coated with silver nanoparticles using 3 accelerating voltages, 0, 100, and 200V, the results of which indicated that the braids coated using 100V (AgNP100) were optimal. The AgNP100 particles were effective at all treatment temperatures and durations except for 10h, which indicated that the treated milk could be used after 10h for other dairy products such as yogurt, which require microbial activity. The second experiment investigated the effects of silver nanoparticles on counts of yeasts and molds, coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus in cow milk by treating milk with AgNP100 braids at 22 °C for 1h. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analyses indicated that the maximum amount of silver found in the AgNP100-treated milk was 6.1μg/L, which is below the safety limits.
